I bought a box of Peters rustless 170 gr rn ammo.They shoot like 3' high.I sighted like I would a typical open sight.Is that the way the Turks designed them or am I using the wrong sight picture?I was told the 1891 Carcanos were designed to place the top of the front sight at the bottom of the v in the rear sight,are the turk Mausers supposed to be sighted like this too?I will be reloading for this rifle soon,is there a bullet weight and speed that works best in these rifles?

Turk sights are aimed like most all military sights......front sight level with rear sight.....then place the front sight UNDER the aiming point. Turk ammo is 150gr and will shoot flatter then the 170gr ammo you are using. If your rifle still shoots high then just get a taller front sight, any Mauser sight should fit. Most all military Mausers were sighted to hit a torso out to 300 yards with a belt buckel aiming point. I know Turk Mausers have a 100 and 200 yard setting on the rear sight but a lot of them shoot high with their original front sight.

Try flat based 150gr bullets at 2600-2800 fps.

Chainsaw... You can go over to Yugo Mause section of this site and search for 'sigth picture' and find a copy of the YUGO BOOK on how to use the sights,,complete with drawings and instruction written in the 'native' language. Northernnug posted it there to show us how to use them, what it should look like and where to aim. Handy little post.

Thanks nosedive,I bought one of those sight blanks from Brownells.Works good.I now hit 3" high at 100 which is perfect for the military rifle shoot my local gun club puts on.I am impressed with the accuracy I get with 150 gr handloads,1 1/4" groups.If I can keep up my end of the deal,I can easily out shoot the Garrands and 91/30's that I compete against.
