I am having the same problem with training missions on IL-2 Forgotten Battles. On the original IL-2, I hit ESC and then select "Take Over" then return to the mission and it lets me fly the training mission. The option is not there in FB.

While I cannot speak for the OPs game question specifically let me just say this. Back when I played the MOH series it was all infantry fighting. When I played the Delta Force games sometimes I had trucks or jeeps but mostly it was infantry. Armored Fist I was in various tanks but never afoot.

Battlefield Viet Nam was a whole new kettle of fish. After I mastered trucks, APCs and tanks I tried the PBRs and gunboats. I preferred the gunboats as they had better firepower and bigger weapons. But as America soon learned Nam was an Air War so did I. I did an awful lot of dying as I crashed slicks and gunships time after time after time. After several months I began to walk away from hard landings and semi crash landings. As time marched on and I gained experience I found I could hover over friendly pads and re arm and get repaired. I found that I loved flying the ships. I preferred the big slow Chinook and got pretty darn good at killing ground targets with my rockets and strafing NVA and VC. When I flew jets it was just to ferry me across the map fast and EZ. I was pretty good in Hueys too but had trouble with the gunships as they were way too fast and maneuverable for me. I could make a couple ok gun runs but mostly I wasn't very effective.

Then BF2 came along. As a lone wolf I'm not so hot. As a sniper I do alright on some maps. Until I got my weapon unlocks I got most of my points taking flags or leaving ammo or aid kits. Or I would share points team mates would get when I was driving tanks or ships. I played BF2 offline 6 months or more before I tried online play. I had the basics down in ships. Dogfighting in gunships is a WHOLE 'NOTHER BALLGAME. When I learned how to fly backwards in a gunship while duking it out with the enemy I started to feel like an equal when in the air. While I am a fairly skilled combat gunship pilot where I really shine is as a nose gunner. Especially if I am tired after playing 8 to 10 to 12 or more hours w/o a break. Ever fall asleep while sitting first seat?? I would rather nosegun when I'm exhausted.
