Leave velocity and how successful the round was out of it. This is just your opinion of what makes the most noise and fire, and gets attention on the range. I know they're more out there but for the sake of this poll, stick to the 4 I listed here.

Posts: 671 Nov 28 02 10:42 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Rapid fire out of a Russian Tokarev in in 7.62X54R - that got the most attention. For blast sake - an HK-91 in .308 but that's not a C&R weapon. I imagine the .303 jungle carbine must have a big flash and blast.

Posts: 286 Feb 18 03 11:52 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have bought a M-44 since I started this thread. What a show this thing will put on at dark!! Especially when I was mistakenly firing machine gun ammo out of it! It was WAY over pressured and it took me about 10 minutes and a rubber hammer to open the bolt after each round. It was locked in the chamber. I inquired to someone that knows a lot about Milsurps and that's when I was informed that I had over pressured ammo. I don't fire it any more, but man, what a Flash at dark that thing made!!! And LOUD!!!!!

Posts: 1085 Feb 19 03 8:41 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes there is nothing like shooting an M-44 day or night under certain conditions in daylight we could see and feel the shockwave even when standing behind the shooter. We could just about take pictures by the muzzle flash ta night.

Posts: 628 Feb 22 03 4:40 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	i voted for 762x54 because it seems like the most powerful, second would be the 8mm in power. both i think are excellent cartriges. then, i come to this, the .303 brit, is less powerful however as i enjoy reading ballistics of the rifles that i own, it seems like the .303 retains its energy and velocity outstandingly! i have compared it with a .270 of the same brand, even though the 270 had an edge on velocity, it lost it at a much quicker rate than a .303. the brit also had much more energy and it retained it much more effectively. how, i havent shot anything alive with my .303 but i heard of many accounts that the bullet tumbles on impact creating very nasty wounds. i think this is a very good thing and in some situations may be even more important than the energy of the cartrige. thats what i think at least "Yeah...Here comes the Rooster..."

Posts: 1043 Feb 28 03 4:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I voted for the 7.62 X 54R round, simply because that is what I have the most experience with, and the round seems universally "mean" with a loud report, excellent muzzle plume and, depending on the gun you are shooting, a healthy recoil! I don't find the .303 British round to be "mean" at all...it seems sort of "proper", comparatively. EmuL8 A new and global version of Idol8r

Satisfyingly loud, bone bruisingly powerful and if you shoot prone on hardpack like I do sometimes, you can start your own dust storm from the concussion and blast of the slug leaving the crown. Shooting an M44 at night makes me wish I could harness that flame and keep it in my lantern. Even with hearing protection the sound can make me jump. My second would be that original Turkish 8mm that's floating around right now. I have a pile of the 1944 and that's good ammo. "Precocious, combustionable," to quote Ford Fairlane. Posts: 137 Jun 11 03 1:35 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The 7.62x54 out of an M44 is the meanest cartridge I've ever fired, however, when I had my Hakim out to the range, it was overshadowed by a Barrett M82, and an StG44 fired on full auto, the muzzle blast of the Hakim seemed weak, and insignificant, however, the rifle itself got some attention. Just bought a Carcano converted to 7.92x57...6.5 lb carbine shooting 8mm Turk ammo should be exciting too!!!

Seems there is always some show off goober with his mini-14 decked out with every bolt on you can buy at the range and i've found a good way to put him in his place is to rapid fire 10 rounds of vintage 1941Turkish out of my FN-49. If he doesn't leave all together he at least moves as far away as possible. I hate to gloat but inside i always smile and say to myself "now take you modern fancy little pellet rifle and stick it!" But then again I'm kind of a jerk

Posts: 250 Feb 3 04 7:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	because we tested it against the 308, by putting 4 fifty five gal drums in line, empty.First I shot with a H LAR in 308, the first had round entrance and exit holes, the second keyhole and the third also a slightly larger keyhole, the fourth showed oth holes like 1 3/4 inch. The Mioisin, after the funny flash, pierced the first with roung holes, keyholed at the entrance of the second and after that was like a train, leaving a hole in the last one so large that you could introduce your hand through it.
