The stock has the drill holes in the hand gaurd and the stock (nooooo!!!!!
). But it also has a line carved in the left side if the stock from just forward of the reciever, angling down toward the reminants of the volley
sight. What was this for? I attached a picture that shows this line. It is not mine but it does have the same line as mine.
Another question, which is dealing with the barrel. It has no front sight, but it does have the slot for the sight to fit in. The barrel is a 5-groove. There is what I guess is a CAI import mark and marked as 303 cal on the barrel. The bolt body is from a M1917 (has the flaming bomb and is parked). When I bought it I was told it was in "7.62x51 [308]". The only other mark on the barrel is what looks like a 'G' half cut off where the barrel meets the reciever.
Now I read somewhere that some siths "took out the heavy P14 barrel, cut off the shank to remove the "hole" [left from the DPing], recut the threads and rechambered." Is that what happened here?
Does someone have a better description of this. It seems to me that doing this would shorten the barrel, which dosen't seem to be shortened.
Also is there any ammunition I should not shoot? Or are any commercial loads fine?
