yes, prices are crazy
you just have to be careful, before you buy http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=7.62x39 this site is a good starting place best to find cases for sale at a gun show 'net prices are going to be in the low .20s+ per round, plus another $20-$30 for shipping Bob

It pays to have a small calculator with you when shopping for milsurp ammo, unless you are good at figgerin in your head. I find some ads a bit confusing,
namely those from J&G Sales. They state the price, and you have to look closely to see what the quantity is. A "case" does not mean squat! I have
gotten "cases" with as low as 440 rounds to as many as 1440 rounds in various calibers from different vendors in the past.
The last gun show that I attended that had any ammo to speak of had 700 round boxes of 7.62X39 ammo for sale. The price was still the $189.95 price that I used to pay for it, but then I noticed that the cases I used to buy were for 1000 rounds, not 700 rounds. A person in a hurry at a crowded gun show could easily get snookered into paying more than he wanted to. I always calculate the "per round" cost before contemplating any ammo purchases nowadays. A lot of that has to do with the "caveat emptor" rational that really means: I will cheat you if I can, if you do not catch me beforehand, it is
your fault.
In that area America DOES need "change". hsc |

Just to get a baseline, what do you guys think is a good target price when shopping for 7.62x39? I have only two rifles in this caliber, a pair of SKSs, so I
don't have a big stock - just a couple hundred rounds of Wolf JHP & FMJ.
I'm concentrating on stocking my 7.92x57 and 7.62x54R at the moment, since I'm assuming the 7.62x39 will be easy to get for many years to come. |

I got a few 1260 round cases of Yugo M67 at the Richmond show for $275 a case out the door. A couple of years back it was $125 a case. Still looking at a few
of them too.

For the 7.62X39 cartridge, I found the best values at 18 to 20 cents per round. Last gun show I was at that had stocks of ammo, I picked up two cases of Golden
Tiger, which in my opinion is the best stuff available in that caliber, for $189.95 a case of 1000 rounds. That was the sticker price on it. I got the two
cases for 10% less mainly because the guy is a friend of mine, and I buy thousands of rounds of various calibers from him at every gun show where we cross
paths.

I'm getting Yugo 7.62x39. Frankly, I wouldn't count on them not cutting off all
import ammo.

I'm afraid that Nuthernug is right, all imports of ammo and firearms are going to come to a schreeching halt quite soon. DM

I love to shoot as much as the next guy. They can say all they want.I think they are stealing from us. I WISH MOST OF US WOULD BOYCOTT the dealers and just let
'em sit on it til we decide to the price is right. I think that is the only way they will come down. I'm not gon'a buy any more til they get
reasonable. And if they don't come down, I won't buy any. I want 7.62 X 39 back to $69 a case, 30-06 back to $89 a case, 7.62 X 54R at $29 for 440
rounds, 8mm at $35 for 700 rounds. When & if they do go down I'll start buying again.

MB, perhaps I can suggest model railroading as that would be better than stamp collecting.
If you stand by your word you will no longer be involved in the shooting sport---------------------------ever. It matters not what we do. If everyone stopped buying ammo there is no way it will come down to those old numbers simply because the devaluation of dollar with the printing of fake money by Obama to so called stimulate the economy will make the cost of everything higher. And for every knowledgeable person who refuses to pay the high price, there are two or three who are uninformed who will pay the high price. So simply doing a
personal boycott of it is not going to help matters in the least.

I remember when my grand dad used to complain that bread wasn't 5 cents a loaf, milk was over 35 cents a quart, and the world was going to heck. (He used
another word, but this is a family forum.) I remember gas at 25 cents a gallon and now I'm looking at an average of $2.00 a gallon. When I was a kid I
could buy a mint condition milsurp for less than $15.00. When I first left active duty in 1974 I could have bought a really nice MG42 from J. Curtis Earl in
Phoenix for $1500 and the $200 transfer tax. You can't even buy a major component for that price now I'm thinking.
My point is is that nothing stays the same. Laws and rules change, the cost of living changes, taxes go up and so forth. Maybe there is a little price gouging, maybe not. Bottom line is that if'n you want it, ya gotta pay what the man asks. The alternative is to do what I do, keep lots and lots of "stuff" and make your own. Oh yea, the only thing that doesn't go up along with every thing else is the working mans salary. My opinion. Eric

Econ 101: Ammo Availability and Price | ||

Hey, guys, if you wanna keep the store ammo inventory high and bring the prices down to earth at the same time, stop the panic buying.!!! I read that retail
stores are now "limiting" sales to 10 boxes per customer? Huh? That's 500 rounds of pistol ammo, and most guys never bought that many rounds at
one time in their lives. Hoarding creates shortages and raises prices.

Some also believe this economy has crashed because people believe it has and not because of realistic economics!!
Others say in order for Obama's stimulus plan to work we have to have faith, ergo if we do not click our heals three times and say we believe the plan will fail or it will be our fault not Obama's. Perhaps the Titanic sunk because the passengers did not believe it was unsinkable?? What happened was Obama got elected, people read what he said about guns, demand to acquire guns and ammo went up, the demand was more than the supply so the price went up, simple economics. The bigger question is this. What will happen when borrowing and spending our way out of debt does not work and people have to start selling ammo and guns to buy food for the kids?? Will this mirror the housing collapse??? Time will tell, place your bets please!!! Wulfmann

The Democrats have said exactly what they are doing in respect to gun control meansures. They are biding their time until the economy recovers. They are letting this "surge" of gun interest play out. Feinstein said on 60 Minutes the other day, "At a time of our choosing we will move again on gun control". I just hope that people don't think they have "done something" by buying a closet full of guns and a basement full of ammo, all they probably won't ever get fired. IF YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING AMERICA, USE YOUR MONEY TO BUY POLITICAL POWER. JOIN/SUPPORT $$ NRA OR SOME OTHER POLITICALLY ACTIVE GUN RIGHTS GROUP. Think about this before you buy another over-priced 100 rounds that will just corrode or you will sell later for a loss. . .
