New sling

Robinson no longer stocks that sling, it needs a sling with a snapple hook, and it should look like it belongs. As this rifle is "new" and really has no historic value, I could do just about anything I wanted. How about an assault sling? You know, the three point thing that is all the rage for "tough operators" Nope, never needed one. I went down to one of our local "surplus stores" and bought four feet of 1 1/2 inch nylon strap, two black buckles, and a snapple hook. Cost me $4.05, fits the stocks sling swivel perfectly, and has plenty of adjustment. I probably could have gone with five feet, but this works fine. I'm of the always "bigger is better" guys. If I'd been able to get the 1 1/4" hook I would have used an early M-16 nylon sling. The wider slings are more comfortable to pack a rifle over your shoulder with anyway, as the weight is spread out a bit more by the wider sling. That is why some of the Remchester guys who hunt a lot have slings that are a couple inches wide and padded. Curt

Posts: 232 Dec 22 08 3:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Very resourceful Eric, great job. I ended up with a better than expected outcome with my M48 sling adaptation. As posted earlier, I have a (as it was listed at the time) German G1 sling (cross hatched and slightly wider too) I got from GPC years ago. Reconditioned it, and dug out and old nasty, cheezy sling that's the exact width of the slot through the butt. Cleaned and reconditioned it also. Fished it through so it overlapped like a russian dog collar, and cut it to length. Duplicated the hole & slice for the button so it could connect itself at both ends with a sling button. The thing I really like too is that it allows the sling to hang below or to the side while also keeping it out of the way. They match perfectly color wise and the slightly wider (and well broken in) German cross hatch is perfect to me with the beefier style of the M48.
