Mark Graham at Arizona Respnonse Systems does good work on FN-49s. You might email him to see if he still has FN-49 locking shoulders in the event that your
headspace would need to be reset.

Do you think the headspace would be ok with just swapping out the barrels since there manufactured pretty close with the tolarences.
I ask this because i just installed a czech 8mm barrel into my german 98k that had a sewer pipe barrel. And the head space is dead on. It will close on the "go" gage and won't close on the "no go" gage its perfect. I was wondering if most of these rifles with the barrels manufactured by the same machinery will just interchange and the headspace would be correct. I believe if the tolarences are held and the threads start at the same position the alignment and headspace should be ok. I have an fn49 egy 8mm that could use a new barrel. And i have two new 8mm barrels sitting here. I been pondering this thought for a while now. Thread timing, were the thread starts is very important. I tried to install a chinese norinco sks chromed lined barrel into a yugo 59 and i found out there thread timing is exactly 180 degrees off. That puts the gas port on the bottom and the feeder ramp in the chamber upside down too. It was so easy to remove the barrel, too easy....... |
