As the title implies, I am seeing Obama mania purchases come out of the woodwork in the local classifieds as of late. Lots of ARs, AKs, Saigas, and many hi-cap
pistols most in unfired NIB condition. Looks like people are more afraid of their personal economy than an Obama gun ban. Prices asked are a little on the high
side but probably negotiable. I guess I will have to check out the local gunshops and see how things are going there as well. Last time I went I got so mad I
vowed not to return until some sanity is restored. Ammo availabilty has been hit and miss for the past year but prices around the southeast have been nothing
short of obnoxious and I don't see an end to that anytime soon.

I've noticed that ammo is starting to show up on the shelves here in Oregon. But who wants to spend $25 for a box of 30-06 hunting ammo? Prices are still
out of reason. Bricks of .22 are still over twenty bucks.

I see a some scenarios. 1. Some people saw a huge risk of Obama's administration going straight to a gun ban action and bought from fear of losing the
opportunity to own firearms and now are less worried; trying to dump their "panic purchases" and, of course, for a profit. 2. Speculation buying and
of course, a mark-up in selling. 3. "Obama" fear and a quick purchase or three before their income dropped or went away and now their
"investment" is up for sale, at a mark-up of course. I believe that the sales of cheap, almost "throw away" handguns was probably high;
unreliable, nearly pot-metal stuff that will wind up on the street before long, if not already there. I watched "big dealers" offer these as never
before during the administration change-over.

Went to a gunshop in Springfield IL last weekend. One bando of Turk surplus(70rd) for 34.95. Never said a word, just shook my head and started calculations in
my head. Buy low sell high, right?
Wondering what the appeal is to the Turk, the power or the smell? |

I think they'll go for it at the end of a term when they figure they won't or can't be re-elected. Lame duck so to speak.
Some time when they can't be stopped or held accountable.

One gun I've been monitoring the market for as one of the two pistols I'm going to buy for my 21st birthday is a TEC-9 or variant thereof (don't
worry, I'm also getting an Enfield No. 2 Mk. I** revolver...). I'm fully aware of the design's many defects, but having moved from NY to IN, I can
now get, relatively cheaply, a very politically incorrect gun. My uncle also knows how to make the things fire properly, since virtually none work as
advertised when NIB (polish the inside of the upper receiver and bolt handle channel, secure the ejector and extractor in place, shave two coils off the recoil
spring, polish the feed ramp, and I think there was something else...). But I'm getting sidetracked. I've been following the market for the gun for
about six months now. The AB-10 (the one without the threaded barrel) has lost an average of $100 on the auction sites (from about $450 to about $350). The
TEC-9 and TEC-DC9 also seem to have lost a little under $100 each in average price (from about $550-$600 to around $450-$500). You're seeing a few more
TEC-9's and TEC-DC9's than you saw six months ago, too, but you're seeing a whole lot more AB-10's.
I've also been following the Saiga shotgun market for the same period of time, since I'd really be interested in one in stock configuration. I've watched the price drop from about $700 for maybe two or three stock 12 gauge guns ending on a given day on gunbroker to about $500 for four or five stock 12 gauge guns. Regardless of what one believes politically, it does seem that a lot of people are picking now to dump the guns they bought right around election time. As for ammo, that doesn't seem to be cheaper, but it does seem to be more available than it has been in almost a year. |
