SOG M-39, anyone buy one recently? |
Lead | |
|
I just placed an order for a VKT M-39. Price was $239.00. Supposed to be in very good condition. I wanted a Sako, but did not want to spend the extra coin.
They also have B barreled M-39s for $299. I picked up a B barreled 91 Finn a few weeks ago, but it did not come with a hand guard. The barrel is
counterbored, but looks almost new. go figure. Anyone know where I might find a hand guard for this rifle?

I meant to say I got the 91 from a different source than SOG. Does anyone know the actual average condition of these rifles SOG is selling?

Although I have not purchased one from them myself. I have seen a few others post pictures of what they recieved and they looked to be in very good condition.
The buyers were happy with what they got. HTH.

I bought one of SOG's B barreled Sako rifles in Aug 08. Liked it a lot but it had some hairline splits in the wood that worried me so I had eb in oregon
pin the wood for me; probably not necessary but made me feel better that he'd put his hands to it and approved it. The bore? Just so-so I think but I had
little experience with MN rifling (I've been a LE and Swede Mauser shooter) style. Still not sure, even though I now hold a 91/30, a 91 and another M39.
Haven't fired any of them due to a left shoulder problem and some laziness.

I ordered one of SOGs VKT's a few weeks ago and received a 1942 with dark bluing overall, an excellent Sako stock with very few dings, and a correct dark
green sling. The bore was mirror bright and with very pronounced rifling. Overall, a better arsenal refinishing job by the Finns than any of my Russian Mosins.
I'm well pleased, AND ... it's an accurate shooter with tight groups.

I received my rifle from SOG today. It is in great shape and came with a sling. VKT, 1942. Bore is flawless. The bolt does not match. This is the first time I
have handled an M-39. I am really impressed. Very well put together. I can't wait to shoot it. What weight bullet tends to shoot point of aim. I was
thinking about loading some 150 grain soft points, .308 cal. Guess I will soon see. I am very pleased. Two small dings on the stock. Came with the arsenal tag.

The Finn's routinely counterbored rifles with good barrel rifling at times in their history just to make sure they shot right. I have found wonderfull looking bores on rifles with merely a 1/4 inch or less of counterbore just to make sure they shot accurately. It was a common practice of their's to do this. Bill

Three came in not too long ago. All appeared to be freshly out of storage and in "as new", "unissued" condition. None had counterbores. Two
had hang tags. At the time ordered, SOG charged a separate hand-pick fee for each specification wanted. Example, specific date/manufacturer, hang tag,
tiger-striped stock, cartouche, splice type, etc. Regards.

Think my B barreled 91/30 just has a good crown cut on it. My Tikka 91/30 does not have any crown cut.
Loading up some sierra 200 grain bt soft points today. could not find any D-166 bullets around here. Going to go with the the lapua load of 40 grains of VV-140 in the M-39. Will let you know how it shoots. |
