This really ticks me off to no end. Just a short clip on the news about this fine Airman, but plenty on the air about Tiger Wood's troubles, and some dork getting cut from the Rams.
This isn't right.

Scott AFB Airman Loss |

I saw a quick blurb on the morning STL news about TSgt. Anthony C. Campbell, a member of one of my old units, the 932nd Civil Engineer Squadron, who was just
killed in Afghanistan.

RML,
I know how you feel. I'm a civilian employee at Edwards AFB, in the squadron that tests cargo planes - so I know plenty of people who are/have been stationed at Scott. Several guys from this squadron are overseas as we speak. It's just different when you know them and their families personally. The media barely mention in passing the guys who have earned the Medal of Honor (all posthumously, AFAIK). What's a Silver Star? Etc, etc. Yet we know waaayy too much about Tiger, Britney, Lindsay, Michael Jackson, etc. I think it underlines the pervasiveness of most of the media's moral condition that they can't recognize the real heros. ALL THE MORE REASON TO SEND THEM CARDS AND CARE PACKAGES. Crunch |

You are right Crunch. It amazes me the lack of any coverage at all when this happens. I high school friend of mine was killed in Iraq in 2005, he lived 2 houses down from my best friend back then; we used to hang out and work on cars. I didn't even know about his loss until 2 years later when I happened to visit my friend's dad. It also feels a little different when you hear of a loss from your unit. It's been 15 years now since I was in the 932nd, but it doesn't feel that long. |

I totally see it the same as you guys. Talented morons fill the news, but brave men hardly get noticed.
But this is only a Worldy problem. There is much more to the picture, and Good News too. My prayers are with your comrade, as are my thanks. |

Sorry to hear that RLM. I worked the flight line with the 932nd CAMS, but a former neighbor of mine (now deceased) was with Prime Beef also.
He was a heck of a nice guy and the lot of them did some very fine and important work. But I suppose the TV ratings are all that matter these days.....
He who lives by the sword,
should go out and get a really nice sword. |

My time in the 932 CES were some of my favorite times in the service. Toting the M16 everyday as a Security Policeman was a nice change from wrench turning.
TSgt Campbell wasn't in the unit when I was, but he was a little younger than me. |
