Posts: 2468 Jan 26 10 9:28 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I've been looking at Gun Broker these last few days and I guess I'm "a little out of touch" as the prices for these rifles seem to be stratospheric to me. I've always wanted one for a representative example, even though I'm not a bolt gun guy (being left handed) however I find it impossible to spend over $2,500 for a rifle such as this. I guess I'm just too cheap, or just maybe I can't appreciate the value of a rifle that really is a limited commodity. That there PSL is looking better and better all the time. And don't even think of buying an SVD, that would give mea heart attack! I like the Yugo M76, but again, I'm having trouble stretching that far also. I hate being a working stiff. Paid $3600 for my Byf43 ZF41 about 4 years ago, and I shoot it in military rifle comps. The only compromise I made, I bought one of the Numrich Arms repro ZF41 scopes, as I didn't want to use the genuine scope, for fear of shaking something loose inside it. Besides, the repro scope is 2 1/2 power, against the genuine scope 1 1/2power. I figured, every little bit helps.

Standard issue Sniper... as you see...is expensive. So,,, if you 'want' a Mauser Sniper... many options........ 1. Buy one at C&R prices..clean it...put a scope on it... (many ways to accomplish this..1. cheap..2 Expensive) zero it and hand load to Minute of angle. I did this..with a 'cheap bolt on scope' from Combat Hunting.com see note item "X" below. (PS this is the CHEAP Option) 2. Bust your bank account and buy a $3k rifle. Now get real..for a 1943 made rifle! Let's get sensible. Buy a CHAMPLIN and be done with it. or buy a 'real' military issue Sniper. 3. So, now let's discuss your "need" your "Desire" and your "MONEY".... align all three and buy the gun. You must now fill in item "X" below... YOUR clear defintion, use, Specifications of YOUR sniper rifle. Fill in below and comply with item 3 above. SNIPER RIFLE Defintion "X". PS..remember your MONEY paraimeter. Good Luck Buddy. Ole Mausers can Shoot.. IF you prepare the rifle..prepare the sites...prepare the rounds you will shoot. Nose Dive. Good, Fast, Cheap. Posts: 329 Feb 5 12 7:47 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I got lucky with an M48 that already had the holes. The most important thing is going to be bore condition and secondly the crown. (can always be recrowned) I added the proper scope and mounts and it shoots nearly MOA with commercial ammo and sometimes surplus. Posts: 697 Feb 23 12 1:25 AM active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	WWII German firearms seem to carry a large premium as a rule - run-of-the-mill RC K98s are regularly running over $300 at many shows. Anything unusual like a K43 goes for heaps of money, and the K98 sniper seems to be a holy grail for many. I'll never be able to afford a $4000 rifle, unless one of the ones I already own appreciates to that level in the next 50 years! The closest to a K98 sniper I will ever get is my Yugoslavian M48A with an Iron Elite no-gunsmithing cantilever scope mount topped with a cheap Bushnell scope that I keep planning to replace without ever actually doing it. I want to get a scope with a German reticle but haven't yet found one that is inexpensive. Long story short, the scoped Yugo Mauser shoots better than I do, so until I have more range time and get to the point where I can really utilize a scoped rifle to something approaching its potential, I don't think I need to bother with a genuine sniper. But If I DID have $4000 to blow on a genuine 98k sniper, you can bet I'd shoot it! They are still actually usable, unlike many collectable SAA Colt revolvers that need to be kept in bubblewrap and handled with gloves for fear that the smallest scratch might knock $10000 off the six-figure value.
