Before Christmas I sold my Winchester 94/22 to a friend of mine that collects Winchesters. I had gotten rid of my other lever actions and had need of the money. Now I'm wishing I hadn't of sold it. It was in perfect condition and was a very accurate rifle. What are some of you guys recommendations for the most accurate .22's you have experience with. I want to get another .22 and I'm not up to speed on which ones are best. The 94/22 and Ruger 10/22's are the only .22's I've had.

I have 10/22s, 77/22s and a beautiful Browning .22 BLR. For accuracy, I think the 77/22 has the others beat. The 10/22 target is fun to shoot, but since I hunt whitetail w/ a Ruger M77 in 6.5x55 the Ruger 77/22 is a natural choice.

Do all the 77/22's come without iron sights?

One thing to keep in mind, the stock 77/22 trigger is not great. It's probably usable, but I changed mine out to a Timney right after I got the rifle. Now, if you're looking for an iron sight rifle, I think the best thing going is a 10/22 with Tech-Sights.

I have been happy with the accuracy of the 10/22's I've owned in the past. The 94/22 I sold was just exceptionally accurate.

If you liked the Winchester, you'd LOVE a Marlin 39-A.
Its arguably the finest .22 lever gun ever made, and its still made from milled steel and American walnut, just like it was in 1891. No plastic, no Zamac, no aluminum, and stampings only used for springs on newer models.

I'd look at buying an older version, the latest model has a rebounding hammer and a cross-bolt safety that purest find offensive.
Many owners are able to get 1 MOA groups with selected ammo and a good scope.
The 39-was made in a 20" carbine and the 24" rifle.
The rifle has a heavy weight barrel that really shoots, and out-shoots many bolt rifles.

People who own one don't let go, so you have to hunt for them, but its worth it.

The 39A is a fine looking rifle. Is there a preference for the Ballard type rifling or the later micro-groove? There are a number of the older pieces available. They have held their value well. Many are in very nice condition as well. I like the look of them.

Try a CZ 452.
Great workmanship,excellent triggers,good wood.
Several configurations and price points to choose from.

My son and I love our CZ452. Military trainer version. Put a Sweet 22 scope on it. Happy with it out to 175 m. so far.

I've had my CZ452 for about 15 years now and the style is equivalent to the LUX version - this was the only style available at the time. They are good value for money. Fortunately mine shoots well with the less expensive ammo on the market - Winchester T22. The Winchester Subsonics and Powerpoints used to shoot accurately as well, but I bought a new batch of the Subsonics and they are not as good as they used to be - regular fliers. I also tried some expensive ammo (a few types of RWS) and luckily it didn't shoot it any better than the cheaper stuff. The better quality ammo needs a tight chambered rifle to get the best out of it.

1.5 MOA at 50 yards is typical for my CZ and it doesn't deviate much between 1-2 MOA.

I've got a 4-12x Bushnell on it.

I think some variety is due here. I have a 10-22 with bull barrel SS stock and all the good stuff, tried the 39-A but extractor problems, then I got a Henry basic lever and it shoots very good. I found two Ithica M-72's which are all milled steel and no plastic but just the same insides as the Henry but 40 years old. These two old levers are very accurate, and loads of fun. The Romainian 22- 5 shot bolt is very accurate and are in the $125-160 price range. As far as rimfires go they almost all shoot good. I think one of the Ithica's is my best shooter, shoot shotgun shells off a log all day at 50 yds.

I've found the CZ 452's are on average about the most accurate rifles in their price range. If you don't mind spending three to four times as much money, you can step up to a 54 action Anschutz. You'll then have one of the kings of sporter rifles.

I know the feeling i sold my colt 1911a1 gov in nickel finish and my ruger target 22 made in the 200th year too. I was out of work with three little hungry mouths to feed. They come first. This was the very first recession in '83 when the interests rates hit 21% no one was buying anything.

I just started buying some of the older 22cal pump rifles. My grandfather had an older winchester pump and i shot it as a kid. I'm not sure who has it but i didn't get it. I just picked up a 1890 winchester pump that takes 22 shorts, longs and long rifle bullets and it has a round barrel. At the time the seller also had a 1906 remington 22cal pump too so i grabbed that too. Having one grandkid(12yo step grandkid) and another just born i figured i'd get them some 22's to play with someday. I'm also building them youth rifles too. I figure i'm old now and if i pass on the'll have the firearms they will need to hunt and shoot with. I have to think ahead for the next generation now.
