1971, Marlin 444s!
I got an unexpected bonus so I had no reason not to indulge myself over this holiday weekend. I looked it over thoroughly and decided the light freckling of surface rust on the upper side of the barrel would 0000 steel wool off with a little tlc. Also the dusting of surface rust spots inside the barrel in the last half inch of bore would come out easily too, and if not I could shorten the barrel if necessary to improve it. But the rust was not serious and the bore cleaned to mirror bright. The wood is excellent and only has two very tiny dings. I am quite satisfied since I got it for less than the asking price of $350. The shop also has two 35 Remingtons and an 1895 44 mag still for sale at reasonable prices. My son bought their Glenfield Model 30 half mag in 90% condition for $220 OTD. We had a great day. Pics of the 444s to come!
