Had been tapped and recut for 8mm06 Ackley. I decided to restore it to military trim. Have used it for everything from elk to coyote. I have read that was a common conversion after WWII, but the Ackley puts another twist on it. How are the ballistics and what bullet and weight do you use? Lots of questions, sorry, but have considered that conversion on an already sporterized Mauser. I have a .338/06 AI that really shoots good, but still trying to develope a hunting load. Kevin in Or.

Best sucess with 200 gr Nosler Accubond spbt and IMR 4895 powder. Shot the dog with a 125 gr Hornady spt west of Tygh Valley, Or. Not much data out there. I used Speer's 8mm06 data as a starting point a worked my way up slowly about 5%. Best luck with 200 gr Nosler Accubond and 49 gr IMR 4895 CCI 200 primer and Winchester cases. Approaches .300 Win mag performance. Photo below from left to right 200 gr spbt Nosler Accubond, 180 gr Nosler ballistic tip and Sierra 175 gr spt. On the right standard 8mm06. Notice the shoulder difference. I think this was originally cut 8mm06 and then opened up to Ackley because of the reamer groove around the neck. This is a little OT but I hope this answers your questions. What part of Oregon are you in? I live SE of Portland. I have done some work around Tygh Valley and drive thru there on occasion when heading up to The Dalles, again for work. I now live east of Klamath Falls about twenty five miles, north of Bonanza, Or. Out in the sticks, so to speak. I'll have to read up on the ballistics. Good to see you have the flat butt plate on the rifle. I have found the other style, cupped, to punish my shoulder a bit more after numerous shots. Were the first three rounds formed from 30-06 brass? It is a little longer and would probably require trimming. Kevin in Or.

I just neck resize to reload as I just have the one rifle to worry about. RCBS makes a die set for the 8mm06 Ackley but I am to cheap to spring for it. LOL!
