hi, as you (hopefully) can see bubba got a hold of this carcano 6.5 ,,, so I decided to hot blue the furniture on it,
I GOOFED UP

the bluing came out pretty good and because this little gem had already been butchered i thought "no harm, no foul" but i was wrong !!!!.
the extrector broke and i cannot find one anywhere ( i have tried every outlet i know ,,, sarco,, ss,,, liberty tree,,, and more .).
The rifle was picked up for $20 and i was going to give it to my grandson for his first rifle ,but now it's useless without that little bit of essential metal.
my question is,,,,, do i have to buy a complete bolt (which are available from a couple of sources,) or does anyone know of a place i can get just the extractor ?
oh and any info on the date stamp( i know it's upside down

,sorry) would be great,

Broken extractors are usually a sign that someone tried to load it without a clip ( ie, pushing the round in by hand, then force-closing the bolt.)
..The Carcano is made on the Mauser "Guided Loading" princilpe, where the cartridges rides up out of the packet clip and underneath the extractor claw, as it is chambered.
The Carcano is NOT an SMLE (which has a pivoting Extractor).

The Gun was(is) a 1941-made M91/38 Fucile Corto (Short Rifle) which has been bubba'ed almost beyond redemption. It can still be "Lazarus'ed" with a new replacement stock and bands, and a new Bolt (the bolt handle has also been "Babba'ed" as well, so a new Bolt Body with a good extractor, is a simple matter.) And since later Carcanos ( after WW I) are not serialled bolt and receiver, any curved bolt-handle Carcano bolt will do.

The Date 1941 XIX is 1941, 19th year of the Fascist Era ("EF").

Keep the bolt body, chances of getting a loose replacement extractor are rare, but you never know.

A good rifle to start a youngster on; strong, robust, will take a deer at medium range,(even with the fixed sights) and ammo can be loaded using components (Prvi P. cases, Hornady projies, Boxer primers and Powder.) readily available.

thanks doc , i have a bolt body on the way so i am one step closer to getting this rifle back to issue ( i have a feeling it's going to tough to get all the pieces gathered together).
how difficult would it be to get a stock for it ? this is my biggest worry ,the smaller parts ,bands, screws ect, i have seen for sale but a stock might prove to be a challenge,,, we'll see.
if you can point me in the right direction for a stock that would be greatly appreciated .

About a year ago Sarco had some NOS short rifle stocks, but I don't know if they have any left. Some of the hardware is available from Springfield Sporters, but some parts like the bayonet bar are hard to locate. Sometimes it's easier in the long run to buy an intact donor rifle.

eagle7, after thinking this through a little bit i'm thinking the same thing (donor rifle ) my chances of collecting all the pieces needed from various sources is going to be a real chore, it might be better to just go ahead and buy a beat-up doner or two.
As this rifle was bubbered so much it can't hurt it any by putting it back together at least so it "looks the part" , it would be a frankenrifle but not many milsurps aren't these days to some extent or another unless it's all matching and unmolested.
anyway there is a gun show here today at the state fairgrounds and i was going with the intention of picking up another Enfield but if i see a possible doner i think the Enfield will have to wait.
like dad always said "do one thing at a time and do it right " i think i'll follow his and your advice.
carcano's be aware im on the hunt.

Ouch! I can't get the en-bloc clips to work reliably for love or money with the Prvi - I have also taken to hand-feeding my M91/38!!

Any suggestions as to how to hand-feed it safely?

What kind of clips are you using? I use Italian surplus clips from the late 1930s with Prvi Partizan ammo and they work great in the six Carcanos I shoot. I have heard that the reproduction clips that were sold by Numerich/Gunparts don't work well.
