This is my latest acquisition, an un-fired 629 factory engraved revolver. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the date of manufacture was. The serial # starts....N779xxx.

629 production started in 1978.
Very nice engraving!!
I am going to guesstimate 1980.
Verified with a little googling to show that it was made between June 19th and June 20th depending on the last three digits it was one made on the 19th out of 800 and one out of 1133 on the 20th.

Ahh, 1980 then. I got a great deal on this piece. Only paid 1300 for it.

Have you got a factory letter with it to verify the engraving?
I picked up some S&W display cases many years ago, most had the blue flocked plastic trays broken or the velvet worn off. I ended up relining them and making custom fit cases for a few S&W's that I have managed to acquire over the years.
