When was my BRNO VZ24 Czech Mauser made & what is its approximate value |
Lead | |
|
I inherited a Czechoslovakian VZ24 8mm [7.92x57] Mauser recently. It originally belonged to my great uncle, who served in the 42nd Combat Engineers Battalion, Patton's 3rd Army Group in WW II. I am uncertain as to the date and details on how this rifle came into my great uncle's possession or how long he owned the rifle. The following data will help with determining the age and hopefully, the approximate value of this rifle. The original stock is made of a solid hardwood, possibly walnut. All military cartouches, insignias and stampings have been removed from the stock and the holes filled in. (Unfortunately, the stock has been shortened and "sporterized".) The bolt and receiver have matching serial numbers and all parts of the rifle appear to be original. The Mauser is usable, shows minimal wear, has no rust and is accurate at 200 yards. (I have not had the opportunity to shoot the rifle at longer ranges.)
