I was a hunter and competitive pistol shooter 'till the Turk Mausers, Swedes and Nagants started showing up cheap. In those days, it was buy 10, restore and keep the best few to shoot.
Just lately, I am turning the corner on the collection. It got way too big and unwieldy, hard to care for, so right now they're all getting a real hard look and some are going out the door. Sold some of the Mosins, all of the Turks but one good one, and now I'm looking at the Frenchies which I don't shoot....the Enfield jungle carbine is endangered too. Maybe the Japanese Type I is going, and maybe a Type 99 or two...all are great guns, but I've now owned them and shot them, and it's time to move on. There are a few I'm hanging on to for sentimental reasons...some bought from folks right here that I will definitely keep. Truthfully I'm a lot happier shooting my Garands and 1917s.
For the future, Civil War weapons...bought an 1861 Springfield repro, and am workng on a .54 Sharps carbine repro....got into older large-caliber S & Ws, and now I'm getting a hankering for a 6.8 or .300 upper....
So- what did you start with, and how has your collection and your predilection changed?
