I just picked up this rifle today. It's all matching with a great bore and smooth action. It came with a bayonet too. I paid a buddy $200 and thought I was treating him fair. If not, I'd like to get him some more money. I really do not follow these rifles.
Any thoughts as to value he received?

I also picked up the 1891 Carbine...it's pretty good but has some pitting on top. Great bore and smooth action. Pretty nice gun but with the pitting, I only went $125 on this one.

Again, just making sure I was fair with him.

For the condition shown, I think the price was fair. Usually the Carbines go for more than the long rifles, BUT this one has a LOT of pitting on it.

If the crest has not been scrubbed, that rifle is an exception to the rule, as 90plus% of the M91's seem to have no crest. All matching numbers and a VG bore add to the value. My opinion (based on daily study of Gunbroker.com) is that the long rifle is worth somewhere north of $300. The carbine may be worth less than $200

I'll just ask you if you'd be glad to sell them to me at those prices? If not, then at what prices would you sell them to me? Certainly, I'd jump at the chance to buy them at the prices you paid, and a bit more to boot. But at the end of the day, if your friend is happy with the price he got, then the deal was a good one for both of you. In any event, congratulations on gettting a couple of nice old pieces!

The crest on the long rifle has been scrubbed.

I haven't heard anybody take the M1891 bayonet into account... aluminum or Brass handle? Depending on which and the condition, you could be talking $50-$75 value for it alone. I'd call the rifle/bayo combination well worth $275-$300. Whether or not to give him more, that's your call. But, based on what you said in the beginning, you could give him another $50-$65 and be satisfied you still got a good deal and weren't short changing your friend in the process.
That's just my .02 ₵ents worth.

About the carbine I know nothing.
