Posts: 68 Nov 16 12 4:09 PM active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just remember; That marking indicated the distance between the lands when the barrel was new, approx. .3114" The groove daimeter will be something different, perhaps .323-.326". For some reason, many military factories were more concerend with bore diameter, verses the groove diameter obsession that is comman in the USA today. If you are looking to buy a cast bullet mold, and a proper sizer, the groove diameter is the more important measurement.

Posts: 2410 Dec 9 12 10:17 PM Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The Germans, Turks,Swedes, and some other nations marked the actual New Bore dimensions of a barrel, so that Armourers, on inspection with Plug gauges, could ascertain the amount of Bore wear (erosion) at the Chamber and the Muzzle. Once the Wear got to a certain point, the barrel was considered "shot out" and was replaced. Groove depth is immaterial, since flat-based bullets upset when fired to fill the grooves; in fact, some countries, (Russia USSR) had concave bullet bases on the Light ball, just for this purpose; and instead, users of Boat tailed FMJs had to upgrade their Bullet diameter to Groove diameter (M95/30, 8x56R FMJBT) because a BT does not upset to fill the grooves... Regards, Doc AV BTW, Turkish Bore diameters range from 7,90 to 7,94 ( seen examples) and German Pre-WW I Barrels range from 7,89 to 7,93 ( also seen examples). All, for shooting Purposes, used the standard Patrone 7,9 "s" ( 154 grain Bullet).
