Posts: 276 Nov 19 12 5:42 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Well, I had some luck and got a 75 yard shot at a decent 8-pointer in Central Texas. Hit him right behind the shoulder; he ran about 50 yards and dropped. I'd say that ol' Garand did its job! These past few days were the best we had in years. My dad and I saw at least eight different bucks and this one was the best "management buck" to thin from the herd. Dad's going after the 10-pointer we couldn't get a shot at yesterday evening. That cold front that moved through Sunday really set them off. Bucks were running does everywhere. - thedoveshooter

I did a little Deer, Chamois and Thar shooting in New Zealand back "when I wore a younger man's clothes"...Taking a nice Buck with an iron sighted rifle is the Apex of the Hunter's art. ( I only used Bolt guns, in .270 and a loaned 7x57...and they were scoped (NZ shooting is Mountain and Glacier, so ranges go up to 200 metres/yards.). What .30/06 loads did you use? I have only used M1s from the late 60s onwards( Target shooting), so I can't compare for Hunting Purposes; although for wild Pigs, here in Queensland, I used .30/06 in a Belgian Mauser, ( FMJs) with excellent results (Ranges 20-100 yards, shoulder-to-shoulder or 3/4 Rear shots (with the bullet ending up in the chest.). Pigs are feral...and this year, after the massive inland rains last year, the Pig Population is in dire need of a good cull. Thankyou for sharing.... regards, DocAV Brisbane Australia

Posts: 276 Nov 20 12 7:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I used surplus HXP purchased from the CMP. I pullet the FMJ projectiles and replaced them with a Hornady 150 gr. SST. Same point of impact. Oh, pig population control will happen after deer season!
