Posts: 174 Dec 6 12 8:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just took my nearly identical one to the range for the first time recently, and with some handloads could hit any steel plate I wanted at the 200 and 300 yard lines. Very slick rifle and clearly well stocked for accuracy when they are in this condition. Now I want the carbine to match, but I don't think I've seen carbines in this good a shape.

Posts: 2015 Dec 6 12 8:34 PM Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Carbines seemed to have lived much harder lives, and are generally pretty well used up by the time they manage to find there way here! Many of the long rifles however, give the appearance of having never been issued, having spent their entire lives in the rack, or maybe even still in the original shipping crate! A really nice 1891 carbine is a rare bird indeed!!!

Mine is M4306. Mine saw a lot more use though I think. It's nice and I love it's striped stock (wouldn't trade on that account) but it's no match for yours there! I wonder if yours might be a later made replacement stock? Nice bayo btw. I can't remember though I thought I checked it out before I got it but, which is correct for our rifles? The brass or aluminum grips? I seem to recall hearing that the brass handles were originally intended for the navy but, on the other hand, I think I heard that was not true either. (?) Basically they were of the first contract. Later contracts specified the aluminum bayo scales as aluminum was an up and coming industrial metal right about then, and of course it weighed a bit less. There were several inspectors using a variety of acceptance stamps for different protocols, so perhaps it is not surprising that every rifle isn't identical in this respect. It should also be noted that the buttstock carried a stamping of the Argentine crest in an oval cartouche that was often, but apparently not always, also "scrubbed" when the receiver crest was defaced for export.
