Hi guy's,
Brand new to the forum, lot's of questions! A friend of mine I hunt with just gave me a couple of rifles and one of them is a Kar 88. I know nothing about them except what I've read on this message board. The rifle is in amazing condition for it's age. I've never seen a rifle with more markings on it in my life. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on date of manufacture and what regiment it might have belonged to with the following info. Erfurt 1893 with capital S above it. Serial # 3893 and absolutely everything on the rifle is marked with the same serial number. Bolt heads, sight ladder, sight slide, bolt, receiver, trigger guard etc. At the muzzle, B.2.Ch.4.51. On the receiver under 3893 there is a lower case "g" and beside that a "Kr" I don't know if this rifle has seen much action over the years because of the condition, It's missing the sling that would have come with it but other than that it's all there and fully functional. I assume it's an 8mm. Are these rifles considered "Mauser's"? Thanks in advance for any info!
