Posts: 15 Dec 22 12 12:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Just got our first Mauser a few weeks ago, pulled apart to clean throughly. Whoever did have this before me had cleaned pretty well. The only thing is the safety is locked in the fire position. I've searched and watched the videos and they say to disassemble the bolt it needs to be in the 'safety position, I can't get it there and it won't unscrew with it in fire position. Posts: 387 Dec 22 12 12:39 PM active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The bolt needs to be cocked before the safety can be moved. Put it back in the action and try to put it on safe.

Posts: 2009 Dec 22 12 2:14 PM Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Of course if you've managed to turn the firing mechanism to the fired position while the bolt is out of the rifle, you must recock it first. You can also use your other thumb to turn the safety lever while pulling back on the striker, but it's easier for some to reinsert bolt and then turn safety to half-on position for disassembly.

Posts: 15 Dec 22 12 5:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Thanks for the input, but I've tried to move the safety in both the cocked and uncocked position to no avail. That's why I am attempting to disassemble the bolt to see what is preventing this. But I can't seem to get the bolt to unscrew so I can disassemble. Posts: 232 Dec 23 12 10:36 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Welcom Hoseppy! Your at the right place for Mauser issuses! I suggest the cleaning done before you got your piece is 'incomplete'. If you are seeing cosmoline on you bolt, simply, your not done cleaning..... Before you shoot, I suggest more cleaning. I mean, take that rifle down to it componenet parts, Espcially the bolt...and soak and clean untill the cows come home. I cuss COSMOLINE every time it touch it! BUT,,,with it and some very fine ordinance personel dutifully working in Yogosolvia, WE WOULDN"T HAVE our rifles! Or, at least, they would be in much wose condition. I suggest you go to the section of this site 'dedicated' to cleaning Queen Cosmoline and 'study up'. There are many solutions, tools, procedures and methodolliges to remove. It generally takes me about 3 days of cleaning, soaking, scrubbing and treating to get a new rifle 'clean' enough to solve the bolt closing, misfiring, and poor accuarcy issues that sneak into the shooting session that are brought on by cosmoline getting warm and running and messing things up. If your are still seeing it, simply, the piece is not clean. Welcome to our site. Stay tuned here! These boys now MAUSERS! You're at the right spot. Nose Dive. Cheap, Fast, Good. Kindly pick two. I still went thru a good cleaning anyway, and now have just finished boiling and oiling the bolt assembly. Still having the same problem, the cocking piece is not being pushed back far enough to engage the safety. But that is another topic entirely. Thanks for the great welcome! Sometimes a little judicious stoning or grinding of the bearing surfaces will solve the problem. Other times, swapping round the cocking pieces will work. Sometimes rotating the fp will help. Not sure what my exact fix will be, til then I'll just do the old tried and true keep it unloaded til you're ready to shoot. By the way we got out and put a box of rounds thru it today, what a sweet shooting little gun. I could feel it when my son shot it.
