The last few weeks I have been trying to identify and trace the steps of a good two dozen bayonets gathered by my (great)(great)grandparents.
This one I find particulary hard to get any information about. All I know is that it is a M1866 chassepot bayonet.
The blade is marked with two letters. S F. The S has a little star on top. On the inside of the hilt are another one or two markings. First the number 454 and ,if it's a marking at all, 11, just before the number 454. If there is anyone who can point me out to any information on the bayonet it would be greatly apreciated.
