Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a 1943 M38 with all matchings numbers. It's in very good condition. I bought it from a dealer about 13 years ago, the stock is beech and has been refinished. The corners are rounded and there is what appears to be a lacquer finish. The hand guard fits loosely in the bands. The dealer said that was how it came in his shipment. I suspect this makes it less valuable of a collector? I have been entertaining the idea of installing a diopter sight but have been hesitant because I didn't want to lesson the value anymore. At his point I'd really like to have a "shooter" and am considering gettting an Elit sight for it. What would installing a diopter sight do to the value if anything? Before I go ahead I'm hoping to get some other opinions. Thank you.

DON'T DRILL IT!!!

If you want to shoot better than you can with the open sights, there are other options that don't involve putting extra holes in it. I put a scout scope mount on my M38, that goes in place of the rear sight leaf. With just a cheap 4X32 pistol scope, this thing shoots sub-MOA. They're available from S&K, scopemounts.com.

I wish I had gotten a Swede 13 years ago! I've had mine about 5 years, by which point they were much harder to find and much more expensive. I think Swedes are so desirable because they are such great shooters, and many were in the hands of Swedish shooting clubs before they came here and may very well have been re-finished, that leaving it that way or going to our stock restoration & cleaning forum and getting advice on how to restore it, would have minimal effect on value compared to the impact it would have on, say, a WWI or WWII German Mauser.

Thanks Crunch. I appreciate the input. If there is still hope I will check the stock cleaning and restoration forum. It's such a sweet rifle I'd hate to do any more damage.

Hi Forester21.... Might see if a MOJO sight might fit it... they just slip on.... I put them on my Yugo mausers and they really help. More fine adjustments and eaiser to sight..... believe you can just GOOGLE MOJO and find them....

Hi Nose Dive I guess I've been skeptical about the mojo sight, not increasing the sight radius I didn't figure that it would improve my shooting. It sounds like you have found that to be otherwise. Any idea if Mojo has a money back guarantee? I appreciate your input.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has put a mojo on a swedish mauser.

I have installed MOJO sights on both my m38 and my m96. I am 67, and normal iron sights are no longer a reasonable option for me. With MOJO sights, my shooting is somewhere in the "not horrible/fairly good" range. I took delivery of a CG 63 last week, and am heading to the range tomorrow with 50 cartridges I assembled. This passes for excitement in my shooting life!
