Posts: 16 Jan 8 13 4:33 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None At last weekends gun show I purchased a Spanish Model 1916 rifle is the original 7mm Mauser caliber. According to information I found on this forum, I identified the rifle as a Spanish Model 1916 rifle because of the barrel length of 22" measured from the face of the bolt to the muzzle and the stock does not go all the way to the muzzle. The bore is in excellent condition. It is dated 1928 and manufactured at the Oviedo factory. The magazine has a hinged floor plate and the rear sight is the tangent type. The serial number is S 5546. All the numbers are matching except the bolt. The stock has the normal amount of dings & dents but not very bad. It looks like Spanish walnut. After removing the firing pin assembly, I used several loaded rounds of 7mm Mauser ammo to check the head space and it checks out very good. I am looking forward to shooting this little rifle as soon as I get the copper out of the bore so I can start with a clean bore. Any additional information this forum users can provide would be appreciated.

One of the three 1916s that I own has it, but it is a 7.62 conversion. If you haven't seen Fritz's Spanish mauser website, you should check it out, maybe even add your serial number to his list. Posts: 16 Jan 9 13 5:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I fired the rifle today using 174 grain PPU FMJ bullets and 33.0 grains of IMR 4895. As usual the first two shots out of a clean bore were well out of the group fired with eight more rounds. Without knowing where the rifle was going to print, I fired this target at fifty yards. Height wise the group was at the point of aim, but it was 5-3/4" to the right. How in the world do I correct the shooting to the right problem with this rifle?

How in the world do I correct the shooting to the right problem with this rifle? Assuming nothing is bent, installed off-axis, or warped, here's how it would be done on my M1916 - 1. Drive out pin retaining front sight protector. 2. Remove protector. 3. Drive front sight about .055" right to move impact ~11 MOA left. 4. Reinstall protector and pin. It may be necessary to dress a bit off one end of the male dovetail to permit protector re-installation.

Posts: 2449 Jan 14 13 12:27 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	All 3 of my 7x57 1916's have the hinged floor plate. Mismatched or unnumbered bolts are pretty much the norm. I have 3 1916 bolts and 2 '93 straight bolts and there is no combination of the 3 rifles and 5 bolts that will close on my field guage. They are wonderful little rifles. The only real difference in mine other than wear and the year is 1 has the Lange Viser sight and the others have the roller coaster type sight. Also one of mine has 2 cross bolts in the stock and the other 2 do not. Unfortunately the stock with the cross bolts in the one with the polyurethane finish and vice jaw checkering job on the fore arm. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Why not join us at Milsurp After Hours handloading forum
